We’re five weeks into the school year and I made the decision last week that I wanted to add to what Elliot’s doing. Originally, my plan was not to add formal grammar or spelling until we completely finished our phonics program, but Elliot has exceeded my expectations so much already and has shown me he is ready for more. You can imagine my surprise when I discovered that the list of over sixty sight-words I had planned for Elliot to learn this year were already words he not only recognized but could spell on his own as well, which I can only assume is from all the reading he does. He also speeds through so much of his school stuff with ease and has literally asked for more to do on several occasions, so I made the decision to add spelling and grammar this year because….well I didn’t really see any reason not to when he’s more than ready and anxious to do more of that type of thing.
He really enjoys both of them (not surprising since he loves everything he ever does for school). After doing each of them he announced, “I love Growing with Grammar and Soaring with Spelling!” Completing both of these only takes about fifteen minutes.
